Thermal range
Where the garment is actually worn, and what it crosses to get there.
A swimsuit is specified for one point on this scale. The cycle asks a garment to hold its shape across all of it, several times a week.
Care
Why it works
Moisture, taken in as vapour
Wool takes moisture into the fibre — up to 35% of its own weight — before it feels wet against the skin. Cotton absorbs liquid water and holds it there: heavy in the heat, cold in the plunge, slow to dry after.
Woolmark, wool fibre researchOdour resistance is the fibre
Not a finish applied to it, so it does not wash out. In testing published by Woolmark, wool retained 66% less body odour intensity than polyester and 28% less than cotton.
Woolmark, 13 trained olfactory assessorsShape held through the cycle
Nylon loses recovery under repeated thermal cycling — a swimsuit stops holding its shape within a season. Wool does not soften at sauna temperature.
